  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the Program Director of Arts, the Art Instructor participates and is fully responsible for the successful implementation and preparation of his/her Art Class (e.g., Clay & Sculpture, Fine Arts, etc.) and serves as a staff member of the Arts and Outreach department. The instructor must have own reliable transportation and be comfortable teaching in non-traditional environments. Manage and create curriculum needed for the success of program, ensuring the safety, creativity and all around wellbeing of up to 15 students at any given time. Support Program Director of Arts in creative and technical aspects.




    • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
    • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
    • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
    • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
    • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
    • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
    • Maintains positive relationships and effective communication
      with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
    • Maintains program site and equipment.
    • Maintains required program records.
    • Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.





    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred
    • Copy of specific certification of an art area of instruction, as applicable
    • Knowledge of artist/cultural aspects of discipline a must
    • CPR, First Aid certified preferred
    • Minimum of two years’ experience working with children
