Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Development and Creative Arts Director, the Child Watch Associate is responsible for quality child care and babysitting. The Associate has a complete knowledge of the YMCA mission, character counts, and programs which include policies, rates, programs and the facility. The Associate implements the program activities and guides the development of the children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment. The Child Care Associate must interact with adults and the children in a harmonious manner.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional care for children during the day to day operation of the Child Watch room. Interact with children during activities.
  • Help to implement the activities scheduled in an appropriate manner, meeting the needs of the children physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
  • Provide careful, attentive care and is alert at all times.
  • Use a diverse selection of materials, toys and experiences for all participants.
  • Help to provide a program that adheres to all YMCA health and safety standards
  • Facilitate a program that promotes positive play and welcomes children.
  • Uphold the association’s child protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines, and proper reporting procedures. Follow the procedures and policies for the Child Watch room as outlined.
  • Appropriately communicate with parents during sign in and sign out process.
  • Complete all paper work required for reporting incidents and accidents 
  • Follow the YMCA guidelines for dress code, punctuality and attendance.
  • Attend to the need of every child enthusiastically.
  • Accurately verify membership and obtain child watch coupons as needed
  • Financial Development: Support annual Strong Kids campaign.
  • Service Excellence: Embrace and adhere to service excellence standards; provide outstanding service to members and non-members.
  • Personal and Professional Development: Demonstrates YMCA core character values of honest, respect, responsibility and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff and others; commit to ongoing professional development.
  • Work shifts as scheduled. It is the responsibility of the Child Watch Associate to find coverage if he/she cannot work assigned shift, as well as notify supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year experience in a Child Care facility or as a babysitter. The individual should have a broad understanding of childcare policies. The individual must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all the activities associated with the daily routines of the program’s children, including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level, lifting children and equipment, participating in activities such as reading.

Must possess oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both adult and children. Light lifting, bending, playing on the floor

 

Education:

The individual must be at least 17 years of age.

 

Certifications Required: (10 days after receiving first paycheck)
