Overview

Provide direct supervision of a group of campers assigned during the season day camp. Provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children, along with co-counselor
  • Plan and implement program activities that are developmentally appropriate and consistent with the YMCA core values; following designed schedule set for your assigned group
  • Maintain accurate attendance records; tracking students before and after each activity
  • Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards; assist in maintaining equipment and supplies, returning to proper storage places after each usage
  • Attend mandatory staff trainings and meetings; participate in camp functions, Family nights, Carnival, etc.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  • Maintain positive relations with co-workers; families on family nights.
  • Perform first aid and follow emergency procedures when necessary as described in the Camp Arrowhead Staff Manual. 
  • Assist specialists in all activities with campers, i.e. arts and crafts, sports, drama, etc.; actively participate in each of the camp areas, role modeling teamwork

 

  •  Arrive at your designated location at scheduled time, in your staff shirt and sneakers, or closed-toe shoes, and be prepared to work. Cut-offs and sandals are inappropriate attire. (See dress code in manual)
  •  ADHERE to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations

Qualifications

The employee must be at least 18 years of age and have completed senior year of high school; previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp setting; Enjoy the outdoors.

 

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must have the ability to lead, plan, and participate in a range of activities in an outdoor environment and setting; and the ability to walk, stand, lift, bend and stretch
