  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Director of Camps, and Facilities Specialist, implement and assist in the appearance and safety of The Community YMCA’s Camps’ grounds, including but not limited to maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds, equipment.



    • Operate necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, weed wacker in safe and efficient manner.
    • Assist in minor repairs of buildings and facilities.
    • Perform janitorial and general maintenance duties such as: sweep, scrub, wax, shovel, wash windows and screens, put up and take down screens, dispose of trash and waste.
    • Manage recycling. 
    • Performs duties in accordance with regulatory compliance guidelines, as well as the Camp Staff Manual requirements.
    • Assist with emergencies when necessary.
    • Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory.
    • Store equipment safely.
    • Handle equipment safely. 
    • Pick up trash around the grounds daily.
    • Handle the campers lunches as directed by Supervisor.
    • Perform daily duties as assigned on the Maintenance Board.
    • Sound system should be put out and put away daily, make sure it is operating efficiently.
    • Sweep daily (if applicable): fishing docks, sidewalks, pavilions.
    • Mow in assigned areas, while NO children or staff is present.
    • Weed whack in assigned areas, while NO children or staff are present.
    • Maintain locker rooms in between swims for cleanliness and paper supplies (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels).
    • Deliver lunches to campers.
    • Act in accordance with YMCA philosophy and character development values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility; and policies and procedures (as stated in the Camp Staff Manual).
    • Perform first aid and follow emergency procedures when necessary as described in the Camp Staff Manual.
    • Required Trainings: Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Proper Lifting, and any other trainings required/recommended by immediate Supervisor.
    • ADHERE to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
    • Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high risk locations (locker rooms, bathrooms,, etc).




    Must be at least 18 years of age and be physically capable to operating machinery such as, lawn mower, and/or weed whacker. Valid NJ driver’s license required for running errands and picking up supplies, as required.

    • CDL Driver’s License Optional.
    • Current certification in first aid and CPR is desirable.
    • Weekend rental supervision.




    • Required ability to lift up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds.
    • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury).
    • Ability to safely and properly use power tools and equipment.
