  • Overview

    Under supervision of the head teacher,  the preschool aide, or substitute, shall assist  in the implementation of the Preschool Enrichment Program (PEP), in any one of of our designated YMCA Preschool locations throughout Monmouth County.


    1. Assist  the Head Teacher in providing a positive learning environment.
    2. Assist in the implementation of acceptable age and developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques (in consultation with the Teacher).
    3. Responsible for the health and safety of the children in our program at all times.
    4. Encourage children to maintain focus and involvement during Circle Time.
    5. Administer small group activities such as games, art and stories.
    6. Assist with lunches and snack time routine.
    7. Supervise children in gym/outdoor activities and during naptime.
    8. Assist teacher in the preparation of materials and daily activities for the children.
    9. Assist children with diaper changing/toileting needs in the event of bathroom accidents.
    10. Maintain cleanliness and orderly appearance of the classroom and facility.
    11. 10.Report any suspected child abuse to teacher. Document as necessary
    12. Understand and implement all emergency plans and procedures of your classroom and facility.
    13. Ensure that the children are released only to the custodial parent/guardian or person authorized by the custodial parent/guardian.
    14. Ensure that the children are sign-in/signed-out properly on a daily basis.
    15. Responsible for keeping supplies well-stocked (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, soap, plates, snack, etc.). Will notify Teacher when supplies are low.
    16. Conduct self in a professional manner at all times with children, parents, co-workers, and community.
    17. Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
    18. Encourage parent participation in all family events. Attend mandatory events such as Back to School Night, etc.
    19. Assume and perform other duties/functions as deemed appropriate by the teacher or Preschool Director

    A person with high school education is mandatory and must also have the ability to work well with children in close cooperation with the teacher.  Teaching Certificate or subsititue experience preferred.


    Physical Demands

    • Ability to hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid.
    • Ability to see with or without corrective lenses.
    • Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.
    • Ability to lift and carry children in an emergency, as well as lift and move classroom furniture.
    • Ability to use arms, legs, and feet to accomplish the job.
    • Ability to evacuate the building during emergencies.While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions as well.
